History - Student Newspaper at Columbia College Chicago

Columbia College Chicago did not have any campus news publications until the 1950s, when the Columbia Dial emerged, serving as both a campus newsletter and an alumni publication. There were no formal college publications during the early 1960s, but in 1964, the Columbia College Newsletter began and disseminated news in a similar fashion to the Columbia Dial. In 1973, the College split the audiences and two publications were produced: Alumni News and the first student newspaper, CC Writer.

By 1979, the CC Writer evolved into the Columbia Chronicle, delivering campus, local, national, and international news to the Columbia College Chicago community during the academic year (September through May). Published weekly, the Chronicle is entirely written, photographed, and edited by current students of the College.

The Chronicle prides itself on a strong appreciation for design and its aesthetically pleasing layout. Since 1995, the Chronicle has received many prestigious awards, accolades, and honorary mentions from various associations and competitions including, Illinois College Press Association (ICPA), Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ), Associated College Press Association, College Media Advisers Best of Collegiate Design 6 Competition, Northern Illinois Newspaper Association, Illinois Press Photographers Association, University of Missouri College Photographer of the Year, Columbia Scholastic Press Association, ACP/CMA National College Media Convention, Illinois College Newspaper Business and Managers Association, College Newspaper Business & Advertising Managers (CNBAM), Inc., U-WIRE Web Savvy Award, Best of the Midwest College Newspaper Convention, Apple Awards, Webby Award Competition, and Associate Collegiate Press (ACP).
