History - Effective Public Speaking

“Effective Public Speaking” is a set of course booklets for use by students through correspondence. Correspondance courses were a way for students to study from home by recieving coursework and returning assignments to an instructor by post. The collection includes the course’s “Side Talks,” “Lessons,” and “Examination and Self Analysis.” The materials in this series were used to instruct students about Effective Public Speaking practices, principles, history, and theory. By 1918, a Department of Public Speaking had been established with R.E. Pattison Kline, the course author, as its Dean and instructor.
