Scope Note: Generally, any process or method involving aging, seasoning, washing, drying, heating, smoking, or otherwise treating whereby a product is preserved, perfected, or readied for use. In the context of leather manufacture, use specifically for processes such as "brining", "dry-salting", and "wet-salting" done to prevent putrifaction or other damage to hides and skins before tanning.
